Women’s rights support

The British World Charity organization is an active women’s rights supporter all around the world, including the Republic of Moldova. Despite the Declaration of Human Rights, here exist a lot of problems relating to women’s rights.

Our charity organization identifies a number of lines of activity in the Moldovan society due to women’s rights:

  • Gender equality
  • Domestic violence
  • Sexual assault and harassment
  • Involvement in social and political activities

Gender equality is one of the basics of a healthy responsible society, built on compliance and respect for democratic rights and freedoms of any individual. Women’s rights current situation in the Republic of Moldova is quite bad. Only 24.7% of seats at Moldovan parliament were taken by women. Another disparity exists between salaries: a female’s average salary is 76.4% of a male’s average salary. Also, the laws of Republic of Moldova do not provide clear and understandable procedures for gender-based complaints. Laws do not include any reference to acts of violence against women. The British World Charity organization promotes international standards of gender equality and non-discrimination in the Republic of Moldova.

At least one out of every three women around the world has experienced violence in her lifetime. Domestic violence is a vast problem for society of Republic of Moldova too. About 51% of women in country have faced some kind of domestic violence at list once in their lifetime. There are many kinds of violence: psychologic and physical are the most the most common. The British World Charity has developed various programs and strategies for fighting domestic violence and promoting women’s freedom and respect.

Also our charity organization fights against sexual assault and harassment in society. One of the greatest problems here are the shaming of violated women. And the worst fact is that women usually know personally their abusers. We help violated women to integrate back into society after sexual assault or harassment actions. They are provided with psychological assistance. If necessary, we provide assistance in finding housing and employment. We try to help them to overcome problems and socialize them.

The other field of our activity is providing women the equality of involvement in social and political activities of Republic of Moldova. We offer specialized training programs to prepare women leaders and decision-makers. They are aimed to create a new generation of women who are actively involved in social and political activity of the country. We create the future supporters of the women’s rights of the Republic of Moldova, which can really affect the human rights situation in the country.

The British World Charity organization also has special programs for single mothers: for more information please visit the page Help for single mothers.
